For Quiet Island, recording an album is like being in a bubble:
getting lost for days, weeks, and experimenting. The band settled in Haarlem, Netherlands, to record «push/pull». They set up in Jasper Geluk’s (Altın-Gün, L’Eclair) «Tone Boutique» studio, located in a former bunker. These eleven tracks were recorded in just one room, almost shoulder to shoulder, over a period of ten days.
In an abstract or even mystical way, the lyrics explore questions about love, existence, change and evolution. Building on their soft vocal harmonies, the group draws inspiration from the world around them with compositions rooted in indie-folk, tinted with jazz, pop, barbershop, and Latin music.
«push/pull» represents the band’s creative process of collaboration and exchange, where ideas are continuously flowing and chords collide and fuse together to form a unique ensemble. The album captures the band’s diverse influences and individual styles that intersect and blend together to create something distinct and original.
